Tourist checking into Valencia hotel gets backpack snatched with €9k of cash and items inside it

A TOURIST checking into a Valencia city centre hotel had his backpack containing cash and items worth €9,000 snatched by two opportunistic thieves.

Policia Nacional arrested two men between the ages of 23 and 31.

The visitor had his black leather back pack on the ground at the front desk.

Moments later, he noticed that the object had disappeared.

Plain-clothed officer on duty in that area was alerted about the theft. They also got a basic description and the names of the suspects.

A short time later, the backpack was seen by one of them at the corner of Calle Xativa & Avenida Marques de Sotelo.

He seemed to be nervous and tried to run away unsuccessfully.

Officers discovered a wad in US dollars in the trouser pocket of the suspect and a laptop as well as a high end mobile phone in his backpack.

The foil was used to cover the units so that they could not be tracked.

The police also found an envelope with US dollars, pounds Sterling and Russian Roubles. They also found chargers, glasses, and a toiletry case.

He was later found out to have an accomplice who is awaiting trial for similar crimes.

The police arrested him outside the courthouse, as he was arriving for his hearing.

The two men are said to have been living in Spain illegally.

The owner of the black bag was credited with its contents.
