Torremolinos Council is continuing to display the innovative photography show Torremolinos Navigating Beyond, by Malaga-born Rafael Romero Avila. The exhibition will be on view until November 14.
On October 3, the exhibition was opened to a large audience with a free, interactive exhibit that invites viewers to experience a fusion between photography and digital arts, reimagining urban spaces using reflective, sensory lenses.
Under Romero Avila’s EstudioCeroFoto project—his artistic alias @ESTUDIOCEROFOTO—the show occupies the ground and first floors of the town hall, mixing traditional photographic techniques with cutting-edge digital manipulation. The show features two collections that are both captivating: Torremolinos Within Me 3D, which combines past, present and future images of the city in a symphony with bright colors and mirrors. A central car is used as a visual portal to transform static images into dynamic and evolving memories.
Romero Avila began his journey as a professional photographer in 1982. He was initially fascinated by analogue photography and the beauty of reflections. This theme would become the foundation for all of his work, as he pursued it around the world. In 2002, Avila embraced digital photography as a way to unleash his creativity. He underwent a major transformation in 2017, amidst personal upheaval. A cancer diagnosis ended a 45-year career, giving him the time to create and reflect.
Miguel Sousa guided him through mirrored transformations, multiverses and metaverse-inspired explorations. The debut of his work at Torremolinos Town Hall is a significant milestone, as it brings his global pursuits to their Malaga origins.
