Real Madrid star, Dean Huijsen – Malaga CF’s lucky charm

Dean Huijsen emerged as the unlikely lucky charm behind Malaga CF’s stunning 3-0 demolition of league leaders Deportivo La Coruña at La Rosaleda.

The Boquerones’ biggest win this season was a result of the 20-year old Real Madrid player, who is injured. His electric presence in the stands ignited the fire, which propelled them to victory. They are now two points clear of the relegation zone.

Huijsen, who was born in Amsterdam in 2005 but raised in Marbella from the age of five, has deep Malaga roots. After joining the club’s academy aged 10, Huijsen honed his 1.97m body into a powerful right-footed center-back. He led the U-14s in 2019 to a League title, before departing to Juventus in 2021.

His meteoric rise, via Roma on loans, a £12.8m Bournemouth stint, and a £50m switch to Real Madrid in June 2025, hasn’t reduced his “malaguismo.” Debuting for Spain in March 2025, Huijsen‘s market value soared to €70m, yet he calls Málaga “my team” and dreams of retiring there.

Huijsen and his father arrived on October 12 in the Directors’ Box, while 25,000 fans cheered. At halftime, he swapped out his Real Madrid kit in favor of a Malaga No. He sang the club’s anthem enthusiastically while wearing his Malaga No. After the whistle, he stormed into the locker room and “bounced like one of us,” according to Sergio Pellicer beamed. “Dean’s energy was competitive gold—it propagated passion before kickoff,” Pellicer told reportersThe visit ended a six-game losing streak.

Malaga was dominant throughout the match. A first-half penalty and a slick counter in the second half sealed a shutout. 58 per cent possession. Huijsen was dubbed “lucky rabbits foot” by fans, referring to Malaga’s record of unbeaten games (3 wins and 1 draw) since 2021.

Huijsen is a source of inspiration for Pellicer, whose team now hopes to finish in the middle of the table. As Mourinho once said, “One of Europe’s biggest prospects… he’ll be top-class“. For Malaga, this talismanic return isn’t just luck—it’s a reminder that homecomings fuel dynasties. Huijsen could one day wear the Blue and Whites’ jersey. Fans hope soHis story is a bridge between the dreams of youth and elite glory.
