La Cala Lions’ annual diabetic support walkathon 2025

La Cala Lions annual diabetes support walkathon 2025

As the Costa del Sol sun begins to fade and the temperature drops, the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club Diabetic Support Group invites the community to its 7th Annual Charity Walkathon and market on Sunday, 2nd November at 10am.

This 5-kilometre stroll along the beach will provide a fun day for everyone, including fitness and raising money to support local diabetics and raise awareness of World Diabetes Awareness.

Lions’ walkathon triumph in 2024 raising €5 grand

In order to build on last year’s success, when hundreds of walkers and families attended under clear skies and despite rainy forecasts, the next Walkathon promises to be even more energetic and impactful than its predecessor. On November 3, 2024, the 6th annual gathering raised nearly €5,000 through generous donations, market sales, and on-site contributions, including a heartfelt drive for Valencia DANA flood victims. This year’s organizers are aiming even higher with the same spirit that drives efforts to educate and empower those with diabetes. World Diabetes Day falls on November 14th, so it would be fantastic if Lions raised more than they did last year.

The day starts with sponsored walkers gathering in Torreon Square, where they will receive complimentary energizing drinks, thanks to partners like Herbalife. They are then sent off to the beat of local drummers. Families, fitness enthusiasts and people of all ages will enjoy the leisurely 5-kilometer route that follows the boulevard. The route offers stunning views of the sea while also raising money. It is free to enter the walkathon, but sponsors and pledges are encouraged.

The market will transform the square in a place of local treasures, and support for causes. More than 50 stalls will be present, with handmade jewellery and resin art, as well as plants, baked products, candles, and other items. Information from partners such ACE Animal Refuge is also expected.

Reserve your place for the La Cala Walkathon Market

Stallholders, take note: Get your spot for a donation of €15 per table or €25 for two, so there is ample room to show and sell while supporting the cause. Last year, the market was buzzing with activity. Both locals and visitors came to shop, exchange goods, and form bonds over goodwill.

The Diabetic Support Group stall offers free blood glucose and blood-pressure tests on the spot, supported by a team dedicated to diabetic nursing. Attendees can expect professional advice, with referrals for deeper consultations—just as the 90-plus participants did last year, walking away informed and with their minds at rest.

Volunteers, stallholders and partners such as Mijas Town Hall or the Foreign Residents Department are the backbone to all of this.

The La Cala Lions Diabetic Support Group does not stop with the Walkathon. The La Cala Lions Diabetic Support Group hosts bi-monthly meeting and market stalls that offer blood-glucose tests. They also have a 24-hour helpline, 607 879-450. The November 2 is fast approaching. “Lace your shoes up, book an stall or just show-up.” Together, we are walking towards a healthy tomorrow.”

To find out more about sponsorships, booking stalls, or pledging your steps, you can contact the Lions Club through their helpline, or by visiting the Lions Club’s social media pages. Rain or shine, La Cala de Mijas is ready to stride forward—will you join the pack?
