Carol Garcia’s Art Academy, in Paiporta, still stands today, nearly a year after DANA’s devastating floods. It has been reborn thanks to the support of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol.
On Saturday, September 27th, Soroptimists visited the re-vamped art academy. This space is now open to children and adults, for classes in creative arts and community projects.
The academy’s transformation with its newly installed kiln symbolises recovery and hope. Soroptimists’ “Soroptimist by Your Side”, a program that offers financial assistance, encouragement and a simple process involving a few pictures of damage and a bill, has been instrumental in helping women like Carol. This solidarity is proudly displayed on a sign in the academy.
Joined by Paiporta Town Hall councillors José Antonio Redondo Gutierrez and Miguel Ángel Ortiz Linares, the visit highlighted the project’s impact. A new collaboration was also announced with master ceramicist José Ángel Ruiz González from Málaga’s Alfajar Gallery, who will lead a masterclass to enrich the academy’s selection.
Aura Rodriguez, Soroptimist International Costa del Sol said that “the strength of women like Carol is inspiring to us.” Their determination to rebuild their communities and lift them up is humbling.
Carol’s Academy is not only a personal triumph for Carol, but it also serves as Paiporta’s creative hub. Soroptimist continues to support women throughout Spain. For more information or to join their mission, contact soroptimist.costadelsol@gmail.com or visit www.costadelsol.soroptimist.es.
