In summer 2025, Marbella was transformed into a shining star for compassion when the Aloha Golf Club held a charity tournament. The event brought together laughter, competition and a shared dedication to a vital issue.
Organised by DEBRA Piel de Mariposa, the event was the grand finale of the organisation’s summer fundraising efforts, which managed to raise an impressive €47,500 to support individuals living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), commonly known as Butterfly Skin.
The funds will support specialised treatment for those with this rare disease, which can cause fragile skin to blister and wound at the slightest contact and affects up to 80% of the human body. The support will be a lifeline for families who struggle with the daily challenges EB presents, including dressing and eating, which require meticulous care.
Evanina Morcillo (Director of DEBRA) stressed the importance of their nurses. “They are not only trained to treat wounds but also to ease uncertainties and educate healthcare professionals who may be unfamiliar with the condition.”
The individual Stableford tournament was a sell-out, and the waiting list showed how enthusiastic the community was to help. The event was not just about the fairways. Raffles, prizes and a cocktail party at the end of the day helped to create a sense of community.
DEBRA Piel de Mariposa, a non-profit organisation founded in 1993, has been working tirelessly since then to increase awareness, train professionals and support families while co-funding research on EB. The €47,500 raised will ensure continued care and guidance for affected families over the next year. The butterfly’s wings flew in Marbella this summer. Lifted by a community who proved that supporting others can be a beautiful act.
