A PHALLANX a Danish expats cheered the tennis legends of their country to an amazing first day lead during a crucial Davis Cup game in Marbella.
The Costa del Sol was flooded with thousands of people as the major international tournament took place.
The Danish team started off perfectly in the qualifier with Spain, securing a 2-0 victory after the first day at Puente Romeo Tennis Club.
World No. 8 Holger Rune defied the scorching heat to give the visitors the first point with a strong 7-5, 6-3 win over Pablo Carreño Busta.
Rune showed great power and consistency to the 123rd ranked Spaniard.
Although Carreño started well and even broke serve in the opening set, Rune quickly recovered and controlled the rest of the match.
Elmer Moeller won the second singles game of the day.
The 20-year old Dane beat Jaume Muar in unbelievable heat of 30 degrees, coming back from a set deficit to win 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Munar, ranked No. 37 looked to be in charge early, winning six consecutive games to win the first set.
Moeller’s confident response stunned the Danish crowd as he secured Denmark’s second goal.
“It’s a great start from Rune,” Danish ex-pat Janus Nielsen, the owner of Marbella based AnyTech 365 said to The Olive Press.

“And to see Moeller continue to trounce was a joy,” said Nielsen, who wore red and white from head to toe to show his support for his county.
He added, “Beating a Spanish player on the home turf in such heat is a great achievement.” “Let’s keep them going today.”
Spain needs to win today’s three matches in order to maintain their hopes.
The day begins with the doubles, where Pedro Martínez and Munar are currently facing August Holmgren and Johannes Ingildsen.
Before the game begins, Captains David Ferrer or Frederik Nielsen can still make changes to their tactics.
Denmark, which beat Serbia in their first round match, is just one victory away from qualifying to the Davis Cup finals in Bologna.
