Entertainment giants Disney set to stream Spanish football matches in UK

Disney will stream Spanish football matches to UK

Disney, the US media giant, is in advanced discussions to broadcast Spanish football matches in UK and Ireland.

Reports claim that Disney could show a match each week on Disney+. Currently, Premier Sports is the UK’s primary La Liga broadcaster.

Premier Sports will continue showing more than 300 live games per season. But executives hope that Disney+ matches can boost the popularity of this league by allowing young fans to watch stars like Kylian MBappe, Lamine YAMAL, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.

The matches will also be shown at times that don’t often clash with the Premier League games in England.

The proposed deal would be worth less than €20m a year, a source told the Financial Times

Disney’s biggest sports expansion yet. They already broadcasted the UEFA Women’s Champions League in 2013.

In 2023-24, La Liga clubs made almost €1.8 billion in broadcasting income.

Only the Premier League makes more from its television rights, raking in €3.8 billion last season.
