Malaga City is on the verge of a night to remember. Tardeo Summer is a one-day music festival of 80s and 1990s held at La Malagueta Bullring on Saturday, 14 June. The audience can dance from 4.30pm to midnight with the bands: Los Electroduendes (a band), Alejados (a group), Money Makers (a group), Sr. Mirinda (a group), 90 Roll, and DJ Tony Logan. This festival is the perfect prelude to welcome the summer and is in aid of charity – helping social organisations around the province such as Fundación Bisturí Solidario, led by surgeon César Ramírez, and Fundación Cudeca, which gives palliative care assistance to terminally ill patients.

Local bands will revive 80s and 1990s hits in this evening promoted by SUR. This event will bring together locals as well as international residents in the Costa del Sol with the help of bands that play hits in both Spanish and English. This event will also bring groups who usually perform in bars, chiringuitos, and local venues to a bigger stage: the bullring.

Entrance fee includes one drink. The festival has a bar with food and drinks. Tickets for Tardeo summer cost 20 euros plus 2.50 euros in administration fees. They can be bought on three platforms. (www.surentradas.com) ; El Corte Inglés website, (www.elcorteingles.es/entradas/conciertos) SUR’s online ticketing platform is available. (www.oferplan.diariosur.es) . Children under the age of 16 are welcome to attend, if they’re accompanied by a responsible adult.

  1. Money Makers

Denice Daley announces the battle cry of the band before they take the stage: “This rock, pop disco motown boogie woogie shooby-dooby!” The Money Makers will continue to be welcomed in the traditional way on 14th June, when La Malagueta will be their stage.

“We have medleys that we do in English, dedicated to each decade, with images of the songs played, and also characteristic things such as television programmes, dances from the time, TV shows, etc. Denice Daley said, “The 80s will be the main focus in this concert but there’ll also be some rockier music from the 90s.”

They tend to play in hotels on the Costa del Sol and Axarquía. The ‘tardeo evening scene’ is what locals and chiringuitos ask us the most. Money Makers singer joked, “The truth is that our fans don’t like to go out after midnight. The ‘tardeo is an excellent invention like the campero.” He said that he prefers it “because I like to go home early but the heat in the afternoon is annoying”.

Daddy Cool

Money Makers are known for their international spirit. Tainted Love will be included in their repertoire, as well as Billie Jean and Maniac. I Feel Good, Final Countdown, Daddy Cool, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Cool, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good, I feel good, I Feel Good, I Feel Good Denice Daley, Javi Malagamba, Rafael Pérez, Fran Sosa and Jesús Carrillo will bring the ‘shooby dooby’ to La Malagueta.

  1. 90Roll

    MTV’s essence is live

90Roll will cover songs that give them inspiration: from the “MTV era, with music from video clips by Oasis, Green Day and Coldplay,” said Álvaro Moreno, 90Roll’s vocalist. I think this festival will be a good idea because we’ll be playing with bands and peers who do great covers. It will be a re-live of the 80s/90s in La Malagueta. This is a tribute both to the music and bands as well as to Malaga and its venue.

Since the late 90s, Álvaro, Miguel, Guille, Álvaro and Juan have been making music, but last year was when these friends joined forces and created a different project with 90Roll. The group has a repertoire of over 100 songs that will transport the audience to a different era. “This is something we are proud of and people like. That’s why bringing it to the bullring outside the bars is such an exciting idea,” said Álvaro Moreno.

Then, One More Time

90Roll brings hits for all ages to Tardeo summer, such as You and Me and Shiny happy people. Take me out and Last Nite will also be included. A tribute that, as Álvaro Moreno says, will not only be for the songs, but also for the iconic stage at La Malagueta.

  1. Los Electroduendes

    Current 80s and indie pop

Their debut was almost accidental on 4 May 2013. Carlos Medina Lucena was asked by a friend to sing at the wedding of his daughter. He then gathered some friends to create some covers. Los Electroduendes, along with Carlos Medina Lucena, are David, Miguel, and Juan, who are all fans of the songs that they perform on stage, including Mecano Hombres G Loquillo Duncan Dhu Nino Bravo. Now they’re also introducing newer indie groups such as Lori Meyers, or Izal.

Los Electroduendes is a group of musicians who enjoy 80s and 90s music as well as contemporary music. They are looking forward to this evening festival, and will be giving their all at the stage in the bullring.

“Tardeo allows us to really shine. The band’s singer said, “We’re playing some current indie music and reviewing the most popular songs from the 1980s and 1990s.”

A Quién Le Importa

Los Electroduendes will surprise the crowd with a setlist on the 14th of June at the bullring. They aim to capture the whole dance floor. Despite the surprise, it will undoubtedly feature Spanish hits such as: A Quién Le Importa, El Fin del Mundo, En Tu Fiesta Me Colé and No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti.

  1. Alejados

From Alhaurín fairs to Madrid arenas

A fair in Alhaurín el Grande was their first time on stage. They have since performed in local venues before reaching the Sala Siroco, Madrid. In 2019, they released an entire album. Alejados started their journey in 2012. This year, they will perform a fantastic repertoire of Spanish rock and pop at Tardeo Summer.

Their attitude comes before everything else: “We make friends and collaborate with fellow musicians,” said José Manuel García, the band’s bass player. José, Álex, Rubén and Ophir usually play as a quartet, although at some concerts they rotate positions with other collaborating musicians. They take inspiration from popular Spanish 80s rock band El Último de la Fila and music of that era in Spain. “We are fans of Manolo García and all the songs that have that personal touch of the 80s,” said the bass player of Alejados.

Malaga City is one of the places they love to perform. Although García commented that “it’s a shame because there are fewer and fewer places to play live music”. Alejados, who performs 100 concerts on average a year will bring La Malagueta to life with their dancing. They have gained experience from participating in charity events at the venue.

Along with the legendary chorus of Sufre Mamón, this band from Malaga is ready to leave the audience breathless with songs like Insurrección, La Casa Por el Tejado, Corazón Contento, Clavado en un Bar and Como Camarón.

  1. Sr. Mirinda

The concept of Tardeo was around long before it got its name

Sr. Mirinda is well-known to anyone who has spent time in Malaga. The band was formed 13 years ago by Álex ‘El Zurdo’ and Adolfo Caimán, who have played on many of the city’s stages as part of the ‘tardeo’ (early evening concerts) trend made popular in recent years.

“I remember going to La Fábrica to play many years ago and I said to El Zurdo: ‘Hey, I don’t know if this playing in the afternoons works’,” said Adolfo Caimán. But it worked. The band, which was originally from Malaga and played in tardeos before it even knew what that word meant, is now the soundtrack to an entire era, which they will recreate at La Malagueta Bullring.

They are often seen at private parties and bars. The tracklist of their band is filled with songs from the 90s and 80s. However, they recently added one of the greatest attractions to their list: indie rock music.

“Doing this festival in the bullring is very well thought out because it is a great tribute to the ‘tardeo’ scene,” said Adolfo Caimán, who will be on stage with Zurdo, ‘El Lere’ and Dani Cuenca on drums. They have fun performing and say “the work is changed by the audience”, with a rock touch in each song.

Abanibi Aboebe

“Anthems of an era,” is how Adolfo Caimán described Sr. Mirinda’s setlist. For Tardeo Summer, they will sing iconic tunes for all generations, like Abanibi Aboebe, El Calor del Amor en un Bar, Sin Documentos, Cien Gaviotas, Cuando Brille el Sol, Escuela de Calor and Salta.

  1. Tony Logan

    Hits of the Golden Era

At 16 years of age, he began mixing his own music. He hasn’t changed his essence at 60 years old. Tony Logan is still in demand at venues such as Radio Tokio, Circuito3 and Circuito4. Tony Logan is aiming to “revive” the golden era when Malaga’s iconic nightclub Bobby Logan had two shows a night for many years, one in the evening and one in the morning. This will be a tribute to his namesake. “Those years were marvelous, and that’s the reason I want recreate that time through my music,” he said.

From the time he was 16, he studied image and audio and has never stopped producing music. He was working in television as a producer but never stopped DJing: “I had always loved the music. I can’t get rid of it.” said the Dj.

Tony Logan admitted that playing at night “is not as good” as playing at the tardeo. “Practically, all the gigs that I do are in the late afternoon. There is little demand for evening performances.” Evening shows are the best, because there is a great atmosphere, and it has become trendy. He said that the audience would set the pace. “I don’t have a setlist, and we will improvise according to the mood”, he added.

Freed from Desire

It’s possible that he is improvising but certain tracks will be on his list, including: Eloise (Eloise), Historias de Amor, Just Can’t get Enough, Freed from Desire, and Never Gonna give You Up.
