The Infanta Sofia of Spain’s Royal Family was beaming with pride as she graduated from an prestigious British Boarding School over the weekend. She is the youngest child of King Felipe VI, Queen Letizia and the late King Juan Carlos.
The queen and king of Spain were present at the Sofia’s International Baccalaureate Graduation Ceremony held by UWC Atlantic College. This independent boarding-school in south Wales is famous for educating foreign royals.
Based in the grounds of a 12th-century castle in the Vale of Glamorgan, the so-called ‘Hogwarts for hippies’ has become a firm favourite with the Spanish royals.

Leonor, Crown Princess of Spain attended UWC Atlantic from summer 2023 for two years.
Leonor, who is 19 years old, was unable attend the ceremony because she has to finish three years military training at the Zaragoza academy. She follows in her father’s footsteps.
She did, however, share a video with her younger sibling after the ceremony.

She also recorded an audio message congratulating her from the Spanish Navy training ship Juan Sebastian de Elcano.
The royals have posted photos of the event including a video showing Sofia receiving her certificate.
At the ceremony, Sofia’s tutor told the crowd: “Sofia’s journey has been marked by her perseverance and remarkable personal growth; she has gone from being an empathetic and affectionate listener by nature to being an accredited ‘supportive companion’. A true friend in difficult times…we will miss Sofia’s warmth and vibrant spirit very much.”

Kurt Hahn was a German educator who founded UWC Atlantic College as a practical answer to the search for peace and new solutions after World War II in a world that had been riven by racial divisions, economic and political.
Some notable alumni include Princess Elisabeth from Belgium, King Willem-Alexander and Princess Raiyah of Jordan.
The Royal Family paid a total of €74,000 to cover Sofia’s two-year period of schooling.
