Kiwi.com offers some tips to help you find the best deals on flights. Everyone loves to travel and plan holidays. But what’s even more obvious is that everyone enjoys a great bargain. Kiwi.com has compiled a list of some top tips for saving money when traveling.

First, autumn is the best season to buy long-haul tickets, as you can save up to 23% on the cost of the ticket compared to summer. Book four to six day in advance for summer flights and you can save up to 23%.

“Between December 2023 and February 2024, the average price of tickets booked from Spain on Kiwi.com was 175 euros, compared to an average of 261 euros between June and August 2024, an increase of almost 50%,” said Sergi López Rey, director of commercial analytics at Kiwi.com.

He said that “good deals can be found outside of winter months depending on the type and length of the journey: for instance, long-haul flights from Spain were cheapest in the autumn between September to November with a record average of 575 Euros in 2024 – 23% cheaper than summer.

When asked how far in advance one can get the cheapest flights, López Rey said that it depends on the time of year and the type of route chosen. For spring travel, you can find the lowest fares two to four months before departure on all routes. “The favourable 2024 fares were also available on short- and medium-haul flights when booked at least four months in advance,” explained he.

Long-haul travel can be a great option for those looking to plan ahead and enjoy their summer vacations. Kiwi.com 2024 data shows that the cheapest airfares were obtained by those who booked four to six weeks in advance and between 21 and sixty days. Booking short-haul flights 21-60 days in advance also works well, but the best deals on medium-haul flights are usually found when booking 179-319 days in advance.

Kiwi.com lists Italy as one of the top destinations for Spanish travellers. Other popular destinations include the UK, Germany and France. The cheapest flight prices are usually between December to February, however flights to France or Morocco tend to cost less between September and November. During the summer, Poland and Portugal tend to be more expensive.

The advice to book early to get the best deals is not a fable: the best booking window to find the lowest fares at all these destinations, almost without exception can be found two to four months before the date of travel. In some cases, such as Greece, Italy or Portugal, the window is shortened and cheap flights can be found between three weeks and two months before departure,” said López Rey.
