On a flight from Spain, a tragic accident occurred. The man, who was in his 70s, died on the flight from Tenerife South Airport in England to East Midlands Airport in England after he suffered serious medical issues. The plane that left the Canary Islands early on Friday afternoon, 14th February, was forced to make an emergency land in Santiago de Compostela, in northern Spain. There, the death of the victim was confirmed by Galician 061 health service.
Due to a passenger’s illness shortly after takeoff, the Boeing 737-8MG had to be diverted to Santiago-Rosalia de Castro Airport. This airport is also known as Lavacolla Airport. Jet2.com Flight EXS61LM’s crew had to inform the passenger about his health issue and that urgent medical treatment was needed.

The air traffic control services provided the flight with a «continued descent and a direct approach to runway 17», while medical assistance was coordinated with the Galician airport itself.
The Servizo de Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia -061 sent an ambulance to the terminal of the Galician capital’s airport, but medical staff were only able to confirm the passenger’s death.
