AN ALMERIA baby died on Sunday after a ‘botched’ home circumcision demanded by his parents.
Guardia Civil Roquetas de Mar arrested the mother, father (originally from Mali) and third party who performed the surgery.
On Tuesday, they were due to appear in front of a Roquetas Judge.

The man hired to perform the circumcision was not a trained medical professional.
On Monday, the search was conducted at the family home.
The 45 day old baby boy suffered a severe blood loss. His parents brought him to the Roquetas Health Centre, but doctors were unable to help him.
The sub-delegate of the Government in Almeria, Jose María Martín, expressed his ‘shock and regret’ over the death.
He praised the ‘professionalism’ of the Guardia Civil investigation and health staff who tried to help the baby.
He added: “I pledge the Government of Spain’s commitment to protect children from this reprehensible act that will be prosecuted.”
This is not the first time this has happened in Spain. In 2008, an infant of six months old died under similar circumstances on a property in Zaragoza.
The parents received 18 month prison sentences.
After friends of the parents circumcised the baby, it bled out in a hospital.
In 2017, a man was arrested in Murcia who pretended to be a doctor and offered home circumcisions for children at €120.
Police investigation revealed that he had sterilised the instruments in a dishwashing machine and administered anaesthetics without consulting or testing for allergies or adverse reactions.
It is a procedure that is associated with many cultures and religions. If performed by medical professionals, it is not dangerous.
There are health benefits to this, such as a reduction in the risk of urinary infections.
