President of Motril’s port authority, José García Fuentes, explained during the presentation of the Costa Tropical port’s cruise season 2026 that the construction of a new cruise ship terminal is expected to get under way in the next few months. He said, “We’re working on the administrative processes to make it happen and there will soon be some very positive news.”
The first phase will include a reception center for cruise passengers, a commercial area and an information point, as well as a dock specifically for buses. This area will enable a more efficient organization of the shuttles connecting with the center of Motril as well as the vehicles destined to excursions around the Granada Province.
The terminal, which will include images of Granada’s tourist attractions, will be built to look as if it was an Andalusian Village, complete with open spaces, squares, and streets. The idea is that the port will be opened up to the town, and visitors can begin their experience as soon they step on shore.
Placeta del Sultán, Villa Blanca, Puerta al Magreb, Puerta de Zoraida and Puerta de Al-Ándalus are some of the spaces which will be in this Andalusian village in the port of Motril.
The location of the new terminal next to Playa Cable, and the large dock in the existing port will allow it to accommodate three cruise ships at the same time. This will increase the operational capacity and strengthen its position on the Mediterranean routes.
