Sisterhood and support in Estepona: Women unite to talk menopause

Women in Estepona come together to discuss menopause and sisterhood

Menopause Sisterhood hosts a monthly gathering in Estepona to provide women with support, friendship, and an opportunity for open, honest conversations about menopause.

The next gathering takes place on Thursday, November 13, from 10am to 12.30pm at Don Juan Tapes & Grill, Calle Azahar, El Paraiso in Benavista. This event provides a welcoming, warm environment for women to discuss menopause, share their experiences, and learn practical tips.

Expert guidance is provided at each meeting on managing symptoms, hormonal health, sleep, and lifestyle changes. The group also discusses the emotional and physical changes that menopause can bring. The breakfast and coffee sessions are filled with laughter and informal conversations.

Selina Mackenzie, the founder of the group, founded it to ensure that no woman faces menopause alone. She explained, “There are so many misinformations out there and we were never taught about what to expect.” This group is about empowerment, community, and understanding. It is a place for women who want to be able to speak honestly, ask their questions, and get real support in both the perimenopausal as well as menopausal phases.

International research shows that the average age in Spain at menopause occurs around 51,7 years old, compared to about 51 years for women in the UK. One national survey revealed that women in Spain have a limited understanding of menopause. Hot flushes, mood swings, joint pain and poor sleep are common symptoms that affect many women. In one Spanish study, 45 to 56 percent of women reported experiencing hot flashes.

The Menopause Brotherhood strives to eliminate the stigma that surrounds menopause by helping women embrace this life stage with confidence and positivity.

Tickets cost €20 and include a continental breakfast served in the relaxed setting of Don Juan Tapes & Grill.
