Woman arrested after deliberately drowning dog on Costa Blanca

A woman has been arrested after deliberately drowning her pet dog on a canine beach in Alicante.

The owner, a French citizen, was repeatedly seen submerging the pet in water.

The abuse occurred at Playa de Agua Amarga, a beach with a dog run of 250 metres that has been in place since 2016.

The owner was surrounded by several people as she dragged out the animal via the leash.

Eye-witnesses reported that the pet was unconscious because of the large amount water it had consumed.

The dog was taken by a veterinarian in San Vicente del Raspeig, but it died soon after due to its health condition.

San Vicente Policia Local arrested a woman accused of animal abuse at a clinic in San Vicente on Friday.

The Asoka group for animal protection and a witness have both filed formal complaints.

Javier Luna said, “This shows the need to strengthen penalties for animal cruelty.”

The current law does not provide adequate protection for animals against such atrocities.
