Blaze at el Higueron
A fire broke out in the steep bank of the A-7, between Fuengirola y Benalmadena.
As the evening rush hour begins, firefighter are at the scene of a traffic jam near El Higueron.
No word yet on what caused the fire, but the evidence points to a discarded cigar on the grassy area.
If you plan to use the A-7 for the next one hour, it is advised that you find an alternative route or check your map app for traffic jams.
This spot is known for its long tailbacks, and it is also a blackspot when it comes to accidents. The land around the motorway is overgrown and neglected. Rubbish has accumulated over the years on both sides. It is a potential time bomb for fires. Fuengirola’s council has received complaints from residents of Los Pacos about the mess. However, little action has been taken.
On the Benalmadena side of the road, below El Higuerón Resort, construction work has halted leaving an overgrown untended wasteland with dumped rubbish building up.
