Wildfire breaks out near Alhaurín Golf

A wildfire erupted in the Fuente del Acebuche area of Alhaurín el Grande, near Alhaurín Golf, but was successfully extinguished by a huge firefighting effort, according to the Andalusian Forest Fire Service (INFOCA) of the Andalusian Emergency Agency.

The fire broke out around 2pm at this municipality in Valle del Guadalhorce, prompting a quick response from INFOCA teams that were coordinated to put it out.

The operation deployed a Super Puma helicopter carrying two teams of specialised INFOCA firefighters, supported by three fire engines from the Coín fire station. The fire was extinguished by an additional helicopter that collected water from the reservoir at Mijas Golf. A light aircraft also swooped down and dropped powder to extinguish the flames. The fire’s epicenter was about 70 meters from a BP service station in the area, where an alarm was raised. Guardia Civil personnel and local police officers were present to ensure that the blaze was accessible and to control traffic.

The local police officer on the scene said that it was possible the fire started by a glass bottle thrown away, since the area would not be visited by hikers in the afternoon because of an orange alert regarding high temperatures.

A second fire was also started the next morning in Casabermeja. INFOCA teams were able to put it out quickly. The abundant rainfall in 2025 led to a significant growth of the long grass. Now dry and highly flammable it is fueling rapid fire spread. INFOCA may remain on high alert all summer long due to these conditions.
