After his restaurant was robbed, a BENIDORM owner was arrested because French authorities wanted to extradite him for money laundering conviction.

Officers from the Policia Nacional responded to a call for help regarding a break in at a restaurant that was not named.

Three men were caught outside with several bottles of alcohol, and other items.

The Spaniards were charged with robbery after they climbed over the wall to gain access to the building.

When officers checked details about the restaurateur they found that France issued a warrant to arrest him and extradite him for a conviction dating to 2017.

The man was stopped in May that year by French police at a checkpoint with €249,000 in cash hidden in his car.

He claimed that he would be returning from Brussels to Spain, but the officers discovered he had actually been in Amsterdam.

The Spaniard fled after being found guilty of laundering the money from drug trafficking. He was tried and imprisoned in France for three years.

The National Court at Madrid is currently examining the French extradition demand.
