You might have thought that WhatsApp was finished with surprises. Meta’s messaging giant is gearing up for another round of updates this August, and, as usual, it’s not just about bug fixes—there’s a raft of genuinely handy new features in the pipeline.
Thank you to the entire team at WABetaInfo The beta testers and eagle eyed users have a sneak preview of the new features that are about to hit your phone.
The new way to share: scan, send, status updates
A new feature that is very useful to users is the ability to share documents. Share a document used to mean either downloading the file and attaching manually, or taking a picture of it and sending from your gallery. It’s great if you have large files (upto 2GB), but the other two options can be a hassle. In August, there will be a third option: you can scan your document directly from WhatsApp and send it as a pdf. No more shuffling between apps, no more photo workarounds—it’s as close to hassle-free as you’ll get.
It’s not just about the work. Share your summer snaps has never been easier. You’ll soon be able post a video or photo directly from your camera to your WhatsApp status, without having to take any extra steps. Whether it’s a sun-soaked beach selfie or a last-minute group shot, you can now get it up for all your contacts to see—complete with the usual edits, emojis, and doodles, of course.
Artificial intelligence: smarter wallpapers, conversation starters
Meta’s artificial intelligence tools will soon be available on iPhones, finally catching up to Android users. Meta AI will soon allow you to create a custom background for your chats. You can do this directly from the Themes menu in iOS. The system will offer suggested designs, but you can also give your own prompt to create something unique—ideal if you’re tired of the standard backgrounds.
Meta will also help you with conversation starters. Meta AI is not the first to offer suggestions when you open a conversation. WhatsApp now offers auto-suggestions to help you get started and test out the features of the chatbot. You don’t have to worry about the prompts getting stale, as they will always be changing.
Live activity, group chats, and help are all getting an upgrade
The group chats will be given a useful update. WhatsApp has improved the typing indicator on Android (version 2.25.20.17), so that you can see how many people type at once. Instead of just one name, you’ll get a headcount of active group members—which should make those frantic group chats a little less mysterious.
Help is soon to be easier on iOS. It was difficult to find support in the past, but you can now start a conversation with WhatsApp’s team directly from its Help Centre. The conversation will start automatically instead of you typing your issue. This makes it easier to get help without having to explain everything.
WhatsApp August 2025, Why it’s a Big Deal
What is the point of these tweaks and changes? In short, Meta is making WhatsApp quicker, smarter and more intuitive—whether you’re scanning a work document, updating your status, or trying out the latest in AI-powered personalisation. With easier access to help and a clearer view of group activity, the entire experience will feel more connected, and frankly, less stressful.
Keep an eye on your updates this August – these changes are rolling out soon, and they might just make your daily WhatsApp chats feel fresher than ever.
