Wettest March In Malaga For 21 Years
This month has seen a lot of rain in the Malaga Province. Three weeks of rain and storms almost non-stop. Spain’s weather agency AEMET reports that this was the wettest month since 2004 and the second wettest in history.
The normal amount of rain in March is 52 litres/square foot.This year, Marbella recorded 256 litres rainfall per square metre. Benahavis has recorded a staggering 356 litres/square metre and Coin had 329 litres/square metre. During March there were several weather warnings for torrential downpours, gale force wind, and even tornado warnings! After a landslide, the main road connecting Marbella to Ronda was also closed.

Local Reservoirs Recovering
The water level at the reservoirs that supply Malaga Province, and the Costa Del Sol Heavy rains in this month have helped to boost the economy. The biggest increase was seen in the reservoir that supplies the majority of the Costa Del Sol. La Concepcion is now at a capacity of 77.42%. Last year, the water level was less than 25%.
The Embalse De Guadalhorce supplies Malaga In March of last year, the reservoir was only 19.7% full. La Vinuela Reservoir supplies water to 14 cities and 220,000 people within the Axarquia area. In March of last year, the reservoirs were 7.8% full. The amount of water in the reservoir is now at 36.366% of its capacity.
