Wetherspoon’s, the British pub giant, will open its first bar at Costa Blanca International Airport.

JD WETHERSPOON announced that its first pub in mainland Europe would be located at Alicante Elche Airport.

The facility offers almost 1,000m2 of space for customers on a single level. There is also an outside terrace with seating.

The bar is open daily from 6am to 9pm.

It will serve traditional pub food such as English fry ups, burgers and Spanish omelette, along with some local favorites like garlic prawns.

Wetherspoon chairman and founder Sir Tim Martin said, “We are looking forward to our first overseas bar.”

He added, “We think it will be popular among people returning from Alicante Airport.”

Martin says the Alicante bar will be the beginning of Wetherspoon’s international expansion.

He said that he hoped to open pubs in airports and other locations overseas over the next few months.

Alicante-Elche Airport has seen record passenger numbers in this year. A third of the travellers are from the UK and stay at resorts such as Benidorm.

Over the past two years, the airport has increased its number of food outlets in order to better serve the increasing number of passengers.
