The largest cruise ship in the world is scheduled to dock today in Spain ahead of its maiden journey later next month.
The Star of the Seas will be finished in Cadiz by Royal Caribbean this week, ahead of the ship’s inaugural voyage from Port Canaveral on August 31.
The sister ship to Icon of the Seas, which launched in January last year, weighs 248,633 tons – the same as its sibling vessel, making it the joint-largest cruise ship in the world.
The Meyer Turku shipyard, in Finland, began construction of the 5,610-passenger vessel in 2023. It was built over two years and has over 2,800 cabins.
After eleven days of intense sea trials, during which engineers evaluated the ship’s manoeuvrability and maneuverability, the vessel made its way south to Spain.

Fares for the maiden voyage start at €1,475 per person.
Jason Liberty, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group said in a statement released earlier this month: “The delivery of Star of the Seas represents another bold step forward on Royal Caribbean Group’s quest to reimagine the next generation of vacations.
