The collapse of Christmas lights has been caused by heavy rainfall and strong winds in La Cala de Mijas. Residents have been advised to use caution today on the roads.
According to municipal technicians, the beautiful lights that decorated La Cala de Mijas streets were ripped down by strong winds. These gusts could have reached 130km/hour.
Early this morning, the weather caused large huts to be displaced from the beach and small boats to move on the sand.

Residents should be careful on the streets today as debris, fallen trees and even dangling electric cables can pose safety risks.
The emergency services are still working to remove road hazards and clear blockages.
Jesus Riesco, director of the Malaga Weather Centre, reported that Aemet technicians were sent to investigate the incident.

Riesco himself believes that the destruction was due to a waterspout, a small tornado, or a ‘downburst’ associated with a convective process but awaits the conclusion from specialists.
‘As it has such small dimensions and is so localised, it is impossible to detect it in our systems, because it has been a hyper-localised thing. He says that if it was a tornado you could see its trajectory immediately.
