WATCH: Shock in the Costa del Sol as huge shark is sighted near Marbella – but don’t worry it’s harmless

A SHARK was spotted just a few hundred metres off the coast of Marbella this weekend – but there’s no need to panic, as this one doesn’t have any teeth.

The basking shark glided peacefully across the surface, with its distinctive dorsal fen as it calmly swam near the shore.

Video captured the shark in the act, just off Marbella’s coast.

If you see a 7-metre shark in the water, don’t worry. It is completely harmless.

Since they feed only on plankton when they swim with their mouths wide open, basking sharks do not have teeth.

But basking sharks are capable of reaching lengths up to ten metres and weighing more than four tons.

Experts say that this shark type has migratory tendencies and can travel for thousands of kilometers to find waters rich in plankton.

It is not uncommon for them to move towards the shallow and warm coasts if there is enough food.

Basking shark sightings have been increasing in recent years, especially during spring and summer.
