As the first of two dozen searches for Madeleine McCann begins today, a team of German detectives briefs Portugal’s Policia Judiaria.
Olive Press exclusive videos show that the search area is a vast wasteland covered with wild olives, shrubs, and other vegetation.
Around 50 hectares of land between Lagos and Praia de Luz are scattered with up half a dozen ruinous farmhouses. The initial search focused on this one.

BKA Wiesbaden leads the German detectives who arrived yesterday.
They have identified 21 sites around Praia da Luz that they would like to investigate. This is where Christian Brueckner, their prime suspect, lived for more than a decade.
In the video, you can see one of Germany’s top detectives wearing a check shirt with a sun hat addressing the team.

In the same hat, the officer was also seen during searches of the nearby Arade Lake in 2012.
Tents that had been erected yesterday were home to a few white vans.
The team was chatting and laughing in English despite the fact that there were no British detectives present.
