A BRITISH assassin who had stabbed to death a Liverpool man in Portugal was arrested in Spain, after 17 months on his run.
William Hunter, 34 was arrested by Guardia Civil in Alicante, Spain, on 15 September as he left an apartment complex with a suitcase, a black bag, and other items.
Undercover officers are seen tackling Hunter, handcuffing and escorting him to a car.
Hunter is sought in Portugal, to serve a sentence of 16 years for the brutal killing in April of 2022 of his 22-year old roommate Elliot Mulligan at Albufeira resort in the Algarve.

Mulligan, a Liverpool native from Croxteth, lived with Hunter in the Correeira luxury residence.
Hunter fatally stabbed Hunter in the chest and back of his body, as well as the arms and hands, around 24 times during an argument that took place early on April 25.
The young man was able to jump from the balcony, stagger through the garden and collapse before he could even finish. He was pronounced dead by emergency services shortly after 6:30am.
Hunter was convicted in May of 2023 for murder, but appealed.

According to Portuguese law, a defendant cannot be detained on remand more than two (2) years. He was released in April 2024 on bail, pending his outcome.
Gina, Elliot’s mother, warned that he was likely to flee. She said: “We are aware that Hunter will flee Portugal.” He will be in the open and free to commit other potentially hideous criminal acts.
Hunter’s disappearance and breach of bail conditions triggered a massive manhunt in Europe.
The UK National Crime Agency coordinated the operation to find him, in collaboration with the Guardia Civil Fugitive Team of Spain, the Portuguese Judicial Police, and Merseyside Police.

Hunter, believed to be a Northern Irishman but previously from the West Derby area of Liverpool, is still in Spain’s custody while extradition procedures are prepared for his return to Portugal.
He will likely also face charges for an armed burglary in a jewellers’ shop in Esposende (northern Portugal) earlier this year.
