Due to the conflict in Iran, an increasing number of Brits have booked holidays on Spain’s Balearic Islands.
Flight disruption across the Middle East and warnings to not travel to parts or the area or the United Arab Emirates have led travellers to seek ‘reassuring’ destinations, according to travel firms who have spoken to the BBC.
Neil Swanson, TUI UK and Ireland’s managing director, has said that people are switching already planned holidays to trips to ‘familiar, easy-to-reach’ destinations like Spain, Portugal and Greece.

Thomas Cook reports that reservations to the Balearing Islands rose by 40% over the past two weeks. It is the second biggest increase, after Portugal which saw a 42% shift upwards.
The Caribbean, Thailand, and India’s Goa are the top choices for those who still want to leave Europe.
Even with these travel disruptions in 2026, aeroplane records could be broken.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority has released its latest Aviation Trends Report, which shows that last year’s flights were the highest ever.
Manchester Airport Group estimates that the number of passengers will increase by between 10 and 20% over last year, with Spain’s Alicante as one of the top five destinations.
Spain will see a surge of tourists during Easter as the conflict in Iran continues.
