Estepona council has announced a project to build a new multi-sport facility, designed to increase the amount of sporting facilities in the town. The demand for these facilities has increased significantly over the past decade.
The project has a base budget of almost €4 million and a one-year construction timeline to create a versatile sports complex for cycling, rugby, and football.
The park, which will be built in the suburbs of London, will have a velodrome (sloped cycling track) and an artificial turf pitch suitable for 11-aside football and rugby. It is expected to cover 20,000 square meters. The oval-shaped stadium will have tiered grandstands that can initially accommodate 1,000 spectators. It will also include amenities like toilets, changing room, gym, offices and storage space for sports equipment.
The site, located in the newly designated sports neighborhood in northwest Estepona and near the Monterroso river and Camino de las Mesas will need to be installed with water, drain and electricity services. The project follows the Spanish Sports Council NIDE guidelines in terms of compliance standards. The design of the football and rugby fields has been adapted to the needs of both sports. Meanwhile, the UCI Cycling Regulations have been followed for the track.
