US husband kills wife with hammer at horrifying murder-suicide in Costa del Sol

A FEMALE bodybuilder dubbed the ‘Colombian She-Hulk’ was bludgeoned to death with a hammer by her husband in a brutal murder-suicide in Fuengirola, Malaga Hoy reports.

Amy, as she is known in bodybuilding circles in Colombia (her real name Zunilda Mendez), was missing for five full days before police discovered her dead body in an apartment in Higueron West. 

Jarrod Gelling (also a US-citizen bodybuilder) was found dead, with apparent stabbing wounds, in the bathroom. The couple were returning from a competition in Dubai.

The police were alerted when a friend, who had not heard from Amy for the past weekend, filed a report of missing persons at Torremolinos’s police station.

Amy, a bodybuilder who was famous in Fuengirola, was found dead at her apartment on Thursday. Instagram

The officers forced their way into the apartment at around 1.45pm Thursday and found the horrifying discovery.

Amy, 43, suffered from multiple blows by a blunt object that was believed to be an hammer. 

Jarrod 47 was found near her body. 

The autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause and time of death.

The couple was based mainly in Dubai and competed in international competitions in bodybuilding. 

Amy had informed her relatives that she was planning to leave her husband. She had planned to visit her family back in Colombia after a successful competition in Portugal. 

According to her niece he refused her decision to divorce and she had planned to finalise her breakup when she returned home.

Police believe that her husband murdered her with a heavy hammer and then committed suicide with the same weapon. Instagram

Yuleydis, her niece, said to Malaga Hoy, “She was so full of dreams, and so determined.” “She told her clearly that she would leave after her trip.”

Branden Raymond, her trainer on Instagram, said: “We still had 17 more days before we hit the stage to shock the world. My friend.”

I really meant it when I said, “I told you that you might be in the top 10 of the world this year.” Amy, rest in paradise.

He continued: “We were close to the end but the person closest to you ended it prematurely. It is important to never take domestic violence lightly. It can leave people with a heavy feeling.

Family members said that the couple had been married since 2023. However, they suggested that their relationship was strained due to an earlier betrayal. 

Despite this, there were no recorded complaints against Jarrod, and Amy was not listed in Spain’s Viogén system for gender-based violence protection.

Amy was very active on Instagram, where she had amassed nearly 80,000 followers.

The post blamed steroids for mental instability. The family believe it was written by the killer in an attempt to justify his actions, describing it as ‘completely false’ and unrepresentative of Amy’s character.

Her niece said, “She was disciplined and kind to everyone.” “There was no aggression or erratic behavior.”

Sources from the police confirmed that Amy and Jarrod had not been involved in any incidents previously known to authorities. 

The investigation continues into the background of the couple and the circumstances that led to the tragedy.
