Jenny and Alan Boardman from Mijas spearheaded an initiative to bring hope and a renewed vision for nearly 1,000 residents living in remote villages near Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forrest.
The Eyedrop Project, thanks to the generous donations of glasses collected along the Costa del Sol and distributed during a visit in January, enabled locals rediscovering the natural beauty of the region, as well as the gift of reading.
Elasmus T. Gofrey is a Boardman’s Guide who praised the efforts, saying “These donations will give the people of Bwindi National Park an opportunity to see the wonderful natural wonders surrounding them.” The Boardman’s guide, Elasmus T. Godfrey, praised the effort and stated that “these donations are giving the people around Bwindi National Park a second chance to see beautiful natural wonders around them.”
Donations to the project have not only improved vision care but also conditions at an orphanage. Contributions helped fund a water tank of 5,000 litres, seven new latrines, 95 pairs shoes for children, and 17 wooden classroom bench sets.
Soon, collection points for new or used spectacles for Eyedrop 2026 will be announced along the Costa del Sol for drop-offs in October and Novembre. Jenny and Alan took to social media to thank all those involved in this life-changing initiative. They said, “Thank You, Thank You, Thank you.”
