Two brothers have been sentenced to nine years in prison for killing a homeless Irishman.
They were also ordered to pay €150,000 to the victim’s family, who are from Cork.
The murder took place on March 12, 2020 at Malagueta Beach, a popular tourist spot in Malaga.
The victim was a middle-aged man who had been homeless in Malaga for some time.

The two brothers were stealing from the local beach bars on that fateful evening.
Police have prior convictions of theft for which they are known.
The Irishman was asleep and drunk near a nearby restaurant.

The thieves tried to steal the victim’s backpack which contained both a phone and a wallet containing cash.
The victim, sensing something was happening, woke up and saw him being robbed.
He tried to defend his self, but they began kicking him and hitting him with rocks.
Early in the morning, a passerby found the body covered with blood while on a run.
The police said they had received reports that there was shouting in the vicinity before the body was discovered.
The beating caused him to die from a cerebral hematoma, according to an autopsy.

The two brothers confessed to murder and violent robbery in light of the plea bargain.
The judges of the court took into account that both had a long history of mental illness and drug addiction.
