A MARBELLA animal shelter is fuming after facilities flood for the second time since a €1.8m upgrade from the town hall.
The Triple A Animal Shelter in Marbella, which is only a little over a year-old, has been flooded by heavy rains this week.
Following complaints from volunteers and staff, Marbella mayor Angeles Muñoz has assured the centre is ‘under warranty’ and will be improved.
One of the biggest problems is poor drainage.
In the video a volunteer is seen walking around water puddles and looking into the dog cages that are also flooded.
It appears that the problem has gotten out of hand. The animals have taken refuge in their beds.
Javier Peromingo said that it was clear they did not want to spend a lot of money on new facilities, or the designs were made by engineers on duty with no imagination. They only wanted a photo with politicians.
We’re soaked. We’re using buckets to collect the rain that filters through the roofs, and drains which don’t remove water.
The new centre was reported as a ‘botched job’ from its inauguration in March 2024, with water a principal issue.
Triple A staff had warned of the improper execution of works, but it was allegedly ignored.
The Town Hall awarded €1,255,472.47 for the work, although in the end it cost €1,864,403.91 euros, with extra costs of €608,931.44 (48.50%).
This comes after the charity was cleared in an horrendous case of animal abuse last week.
