Trio del Saco rumble blues and rock at Clarence

Torremolinos is about to celebrate a special night of powerful rock and blues with long-running local heroes El Trío del Saco, one of Malaga’s longest-lasting and most respected bands, taking the stage at the renowned Clarence Jazz Club.

Formed in mid-1996 in La Estación de Cártama, El Trío del Saco has built an almost legendary reputation over nearly three decades, establishing themselves as the sound of Malaga. The group was originally founded by drummer Miguelo Batún, guitarist and vocalist David Quintero, and his brother Ángel Quintero on bass. In the summer of 1999, the lineup changed with the additions of keyboardist Rafael Linero and percussionist Aurelio Varigas.

Trio del Saco history with Raimundo Amador, Lito Blues Band y Pepe Bao

The band’s early years were marked by the collaboration and support of some of Spain’s best blues musicians, such as members of the Lito Blues Band and Pepe Bao. They have also shared the stage with the legendary Raimundo Amado on numerous memorable occasions.

Since then, the band has never stopped performing. The band has played on stages all over Andalucia – including Sevilla, Cadiz and Algeciras. In addition, they have won many competitions. For example, the Oliva oil Rock contest held in Cuevas San Marcos (where La Frontera opened later) and the ImaginaRock Contest for Malaga & Andalucia. They were invited to the finals in Madrid and received the award of the best song.

El Trio del Saco reached its peak in recent years. They performed at major events like the Velez-Malaga Blues Festival as well as headlining the Ceuta Blues Festival where they received rave reviews from the audience and the critics. They are in talks with a number of record labels and this is an exciting new chapter for their career.

The group’s signature sound is a potent, high-energy rock & blues driven by searing guitar riffs, a thunderous rhythm section of bass and drums, and authentic, growling American blues influences. They deliver a raw, soulful vibe in their live performances by covering legends such as Jimi Hendrix and Gary Moore. Their impressive collection of original Spanish songs has been well received by their fans at recent performances.

Today, the band performs in a dynamic four piece featuring:

  • David Quintero – Electric Guitar & Vocals
  • Raul Ranea – Electric Guitar & Vocals
  • Ángel Quintero – Electric Bass & Vocals
  • Daniel Cuenca – Drums & Vocals
