Torremolinos registered its most self-employed people ever in May. 5,903 of them were registered with the social insurance system. This is a historical milestone.
This number represents 23% of the total 25548 registrations for social security in the city, an increase of 680 since April. Self-employed numbers are up by 2.4 percent year-over-year. The increase is due to a “favourable economy” and a continued upward trend. The number of self-employed people in the town has risen to nearly 6,000.
Torremolinos has the highest self-employed rate among Andalusia municipalities with more than 10,000 residents. Torremolinos was ranked seventh by the Andalusian Institut of Statistics and Carography in a report from December 2024, with 25.8% self-employed. In May, the town had 2,489 companies, mainly in retail (494), hospitality (675), and services (2281). The hospitality sector dominated the economic activity in April with 1,096 contract awards, most of which were for people aged 25-44. In May, the unemployment rate dropped by 360 people compared to last year. This is a 7.4% decrease.
