Torremolinos upgrades Olympic pool with thermal cover

Torremolinos has invested over €60,000 to install new thermal covers at the Virgen del Carmen III Olympic swimming pool. This is a first for the pool to receive this upgrade since 2011.

Thermal covers maintain the water temperature by capturing heat from the sun and reducing heat losses. These covers stop the water from evaporating. They also keep dirt and debris away, which helps reduce fuel usage and makes your pool more energy efficient.

The Virgen Del Carmen III Pool is a major sports facility for the region. International swimming teams often use it for training camps in Torremolinos. These teams spend money on local restaurants and shops, staying in local hotels.

Torremolinos has seen a rise in the number of sports tourists. In the first half of this year, more than 4,400 sports tourists have been in town. This is already close to last year’s total, which saw an increase of 47% in sports tourists from 2023 to 2018.

Ramon Alcaide, the councillor for sports, said that he hoped to improve local sporting facilities. He said: “We are committed to providing high-quality facilities for local athletes and visitors.”

Torremolinos, on the Costa del Sol, is quickly becoming a destination of choice for sports tourism. The new covers for the pools are one of several efforts being made to keep Torremolinos’ facilities up-to-date, sustainable, ready to welcome visitors year-round.
