More sports facilities for Torremolinos

Torremolinos to get more sports facilities

Torremolinos has expanded its amount of sports facilities with the inauguration of the El Palmeral ‘Javier Imbroda’ indoor sports pavilion in El Pinillo.

The €1 million project was co-funded by the Malaga Provincial Council and Torremolinos Town Hall. The pavilion, covering approximately 2,000 square meters, features a multisport court, as well as facilities for activities such futsal basketball, judo and rhythmic gymnastics. Young athletes demonstrated these sports during the opening ceremony. This venue also includes changing rooms, restrooms and reception areas, as well as a first aid room.

Malaga Provincial Council President Francisco Salado, joined by Andalusian Regional Government President Juanma Moreno, Torremolinos Mayor Margarita del Cid, and Imbroda’s family, including his widow Salvadora Acosta and brother Juan José Imbroda, attended the grand opening event.

Salado pointed out the council’s commitment to enhancing sports facilities and to promoting healthy lifestyles, saying that €10 million had been allocated last year to support sports infrastructure in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 residents. He said that the €1 million grant for Torremolinos was part of aid for larger municipalities, benefiting both small and large communities.

Salado held a special place in his heart for the name Javier Imbroda. Imbroda is a well-known figure in Spanish Basketball who has made significant contributions to Malaga’s sports scene. Salado said that Imbroda was a role-model for young people because of his legacy.

Juanma Moreno praised Imbroda for being a beloved figure, and said that the pavilion will not only revitalise El Pinillo but also boost sports activity. This is a long-standing demand in the locality.

The 48.4 x 34.5″ court with a ceiling height of 8 metres is versatile, and will be used for a variety of sports, events, and activities, enriching Torremolinos dynamic sports community.

The Javier Imbroda sports pavilion is located on the corner between Calle Juan Rosa Mateo, and Calle Vicente Blanch Picot.
