Torremolinos is warming up for the close of 2025 in its traditionally energetic way with the crack of a gun and what will be this year’s ninth year of the popular San Silvestre fun run, which combines sport, fancy dress, and charity on New Year’s Eve.

The have-a-go, open-to-all fun event invites participants of all ages to join a lively 3-kilometre route through the town centre to the cheers of crowds lining the route. The race will start at 10.30am from Plaza Federico García Lorca, winding through central streets before finishing at Plaza Costa del Sol, and no doubt into the first available bar.

Not a serious race

Organised by Torremolinos Council, the San Silvestre is a tradition that is all about fun and taking part over competition. Runners are strongly encouraged to don creative fancy dress, creating a carnival-like atmosphere that has become a hallmark of the event. Prizes will be awarded for the best individual disguise, the best group costume, the most numerous participants from an educational centre, and the largest participating collective.

Adding something meaningful to the comedic race, there will be a generous charitable dimension too, as this year’s race supports the Fundación Cudeca‘s “Eres Pieza Clave” campaign, which provides palliative care and hospice services in the region. Participants can make voluntary monetary donations during registration or on the day.

Past years have drawn hundreds of families, friends, and locals in colourful, often ridiculous outfits, turning the streets into a joyful start to the New Year’s Eve celebrations. So, get on your fancy dress gear, and lace up your trainers for the New Year!
