Torremolinos battle back with ten men to hold Antequera in Malaga derby

Torremolinos holds Antequera with ten men in Malaga derby

All three Malaga province sides in Primera RFEF Group 2, the third tier of Spanish football, recorded 1–1 draws this weekend.

Antequera CF squandered their chance to earn their first victory of the season despite playing with ten men during the majority of the match.

Marbella FC continues its unbeaten run, despite their fourth consecutive draw.

Torremolinos 1–1 Antequera

Antequera’s loss of a golden chance at El Pozuelo will be felt by the team after Juventud de Torremolinos went down to ten players just before halftime. Steve Lesedi’s dismissal was the result of two quick bookings. This left Antequera with ten men at El Pozuelo.

Despite that setback, they had already tested Javi Cuenca through Christian, Iban Ribeiro and Osama Chit, while Antequera struck early in the second half when Luismi Gutiérrez burst clear and laid on a finish for Osama.

The hosts refused to fold, however, and centre-back Javi Mérida levelled with a spectacular acrobatic strike from a corner on 66 minutes.

Antequera pushed late on, coming closest when Luna’s cross nearly crept in, but Abel Gómez’s men remain without a win and under pressure.

Torremolinos’ struggles are exacerbated by the uncertainty surrounding unpaid wages and ownership. However, three unbeaten games offer some hope in their fight for survival.

Marbella 1–1 Betis B

Marbella also maintained their unbeaten record thanks to an equaliser by Chinese forward Du in the 88th minute. Du rose to his highest point to head home a corner. After Betis B had scored on the counter, Borja Alonso equalised for Marbella.

The hosts struggled for rhythm in attack, with Álex López and Tahiru both denied before Du’s late intervention.

Marbella may be able to point out its resilience, but four draws in a row highlight the need to convert stalemates to wins if the team is to reach the top of the table.
