The Rockin’ Race Jamboree Festival, held from 5 to 9 February in Torremolinos, has been an energetic and vibrant cultural event which has brought Rock’n’Rollers to the 1950s and 1960s, when Rock’n’Roll was at its purest.
This year, the festival, which is now the most important cultural event in its field, attracted 40,000 visitors from all over the world, 80 percent of whom were from abroad. Tickets for the festival were sold out in October of last year.
The festival transforms Torremolinos, beyond the concerts, into a retro Americana showcase, with over 50 classic American cars from all around Europe, live bands, food truck markets, and vintage fashion and accessory markets. The economic impact of the event is huge, with an estimated revenue this year of around €12.8 million, adding to the more than €66 million already moved in its 30-year history.
This event is essential to the local economy as it keeps the town busy during the quietest time of the year.
The Rockin’ Race Jamboree has become a Costa del Sol must-attend event due to its incredible international line-up, including Nick Lowe, Lee Rocker from The Stray Cats and many more. This year, in addition, there is the retro marquee installed in the Plaza de España, which can hold up to 1,100 people and has converted Torremolinos into the world centre of Rock’n’Roll.
Tickets are on sale for the event next year. Rockin’Race Jamboree via the website. But be warned, they are in high demand.
