All you need to know as Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz bids to reach third consecutive Wimbledon final TODAY

Today, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain will be attempting to reach his third Wimbledon final in a row.

The reigning Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz is aiming to reach his third SW19 final in a row today. He will face off against Taylor Fritz.

The 22-year old Spaniard, who is trying to become only the fifth man in Open history to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles, looks to be in excellent form. He has dropped only two sets in his first round match against Italian veteran Fabio Fognini.

Fritz will be Alcaraz’s most-ranked opponent to date. The Russian Karen Khachanov was defeated by Fritz in the semi-finals today, with a score of 6-3 6-4 1-6 7-6 (7-4).

That game was overshadowed by yet another malfunction from the electronic line calling system, which forced a point to be replayed after ‘fault’ was erroneously called during play.

Alcaraz’s quarterfinal match was much simpler. He defeated British hopeful Cameron Norrie with 6-2 6-3 6-3. It was an enthralling performance on Centre Court.

Norrie described Alcaraz’s form as ‘unreal’ as the young maestro cruised to his 23rd consecutive competitive victory.

Alcaraz will face a heat wave on Centre Court, a theme that has been repeated throughout the entire tournament.

The temperature is expected to reach 32C at the start of the match, which begins at 2.30 pm CEST (1.30 pm local).

Alcaraz was born in Murcia and is used to the scorching heat. In his first round match with Fognini, he rushed to assist a fan who had fallen ill.

Alcaraz rushed over to give the hot-headed spectator at courtside a bottle full of ice cold water.

Alcaraz will have a mouthwatering final fight against either of his two main opponents if he can beat his American opponent.

The second semi-final will take place after the Alcaraz match, and the World No.1 Jannik Siner will play 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.

A final against Sinner would be a repeat of last month’s French Open Final, which was described as the greatest Grand Slam match of all time. Alcaraz had pulled off an almost unbelievable comeback to win the title.

The last two Wimbledon finals have both gone Alcaraz’s way.
