This month, Wong Doe & Jones Duo will be performing three concerts in the provinces of Malaga and Cadiz.
English cellist Michael Kevin Jones and pianist Henry Wong Doe from New Zealand will be at Asociación Coda in Jimena de la Frontera on Friday 23 May, at La Casa del Piano in Monda on Saturday 24 and at El Molino de Cajiz (Vélez-Málaga) on Sunday 25.
The duo, who are coming to Spain on the back of a tour of Canada, will be performing pieces by Franz Josef Haydn (Sonata in E minor), Isaac Albéniz (Iberia, Book IV: I: Málaga), Max Bruch (Kol Nidrei, Op. 47), Daniel van Goens (Scherzo Op. 12 No. 2), Sergei Prokofiev’s Sonata op. 119 in C major and Sergei Rachmaninov’s Sonata op. 19 for cello with piano.
Studies
Michael Kevin Jones is currently living in Madrid. Michael Kevin Jones studied Music and Performance Piano/Cello in London. While studying there, he was selected to perform for the Royal Family and received a German Government scholarship to study at Cologne. He continued his studies at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf.
Henry Wong Doe, a graduate from the Juilliard School, has won many prestigious awards including the Audience Favorite Award at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competitions and the Busoni and Sydney International Piano Competitions.
He has performed in world-famous places such as Carnegie Hall, Martin-in-the-Fields London (UK), Esplanade Theatres on the Bay Singapore, and the Sydney Opera House. Henry is currently working as a piano and keyboard professor at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
The Wong Doe and Jones Duet has been performing together since 2015. They first met in New York after an appearance. The duo has recorded two albums featuring rediscovered cello and keyboard works with European label HR Recordings.
