The Ryder Cup will be held in Spain for the second time ever in 2031


In 2031, the Costa Brava of Spain will host a Ryder Cup team golf competition between Europe and America.

The Camiral Resort Golf & Wellness course in Caldes de Malavella, Girona will stage the contest which is held every two years.

This will be the second Ryder Cup to be held in Spain.

It was the first occasion that a non UK course hosted Europe.

The move was seen by many as a tribute of sorts to the Ryder Cup contributions made by Spanish stars Severiano Olazabal and Jose Maria Olazabal.

The official announcement will be made after the Open at Portrush this year has concluded on Tuesday.

Camiral submitted an earlier bid for the event in 2022. Rome won the bid.

Madrid and Bilbao also had been considered for 2031.

The competition is a big money spinner for local economies and it pumped in around €1 billion into the Italian capital.

Golf is a major draw for foreign tourists to Spain. Each year, around 1.2 millions people come on golfing holidays.
