The Psychedelic Furs packs La Trinchera in Malaga & show they still have it after almost 50 years

The Psychedelic Furs, a legendary 80s band, played their first ever concert in Malaga Tuesday, November 18. They treated a packed audience at La Trinchera Malaga to a thorough review of their greatest hits from the 1980s through 2000s. They proved that they are still very much alive despite being on the scene for almost 50 years.

There were many changes. The audience was a sea of grey, with a lot of older people, but the sound quality was the same. There was no dry ice in sight.

Setlist is as sharp and as ever

The setlist included highlights from Talk Talk Talk, Forever Now and Mirror Moves as well as the rockier Made of Rain (2010). Even some of the ‘far-too-young’ 40-somethings mouthed the lyrics to the classics from the throng.

The live show started with the song, “Heaven”. This was followed, among other songs, by “My Time” or “The Ghost in You”. The majority of the audience was in their middle age and sang along to many songs. The one-hour and twenty minutes of the evening were filled with tracks that referenced post-punk and new wave as well as psychedelic and psychedelic music.

Richard Butler’s voice, which is sometimes raw and sweet, but also warm, remains unmistakable. His brother Tim Butler, who plays bass, was on stage with him, pointing directly out those in the audience singing along, or what 40 years ago would have been an actual mosh-pit.

It was great to see them again on stage. They were very happy and loved by many, including those for whom it would have been their debut Furs show.

After a brief hiatus and a side project called Love Spit Love in the 1990s, the band regrouped with the dawning new millennium. Richard Butler (vocals), Tim Butler (bass), Amanda Kramer, Rich Good, and Zack Alford complete the Psychedelic Furs touring lineup.

The Psychedelic Furs were still having a great time, and their energy was not fading.
