The Olive Press Podcast comes roaring back with a vengeance: Police violence in Portugal, police negligence in Almeria, and curious tsunami drills in Cadiz

The Olive Press Podcast is back in full force with a vengeance. Police violence in Portugal; police negligence in Almeria; and strange tsunami drills in Cadiz

The Olive Press flagship podcast EPISODE 10 has been available for a couple of days. It is well worth listening to.

Caroline Lips and OP Editor Jon Clarke discuss the hottest expat topics.

Two regional police forces, the one from Portugal and the other from Almeria, are under the microscope in this episode.

Jon tells a story about a powerful lawyer in the Algarve who received a kicking not only from some bouncers but also from the police officers that he reported the crime to.

He was dragged down an alleyway by the gang and beaten up. Shocking.

And then the Guardia Civil in Almeria – on some level this is probably an even worse tale.

Sources told us they had closed their investigation into the suspicious death of an Englishman living in Mojacar.

Brett Dryden, who ran a cannabis club, was tragically killed two summers ago in what has all the hallmarks – literally all of them – of a violent robbery.

To the dismay of the family, the police failed to investigate the case properly and closed it with many unexplored leads.

And finally, we have the strange occurrence of tsunami drills in Cadiz – something which saw everyone in coastal regions receive an alert to their phone and instructions to get to the third floor of their building.

Compelling stuff, and instructions that may even save lives if another mega earthquake strikes the coast of Portugal as it did in 1755 – catastrophically destroying Lisbon.

This was the tenth episode of our series and it was a rollercoaster.

After a technical glitch ruined one of the team’s audio feeds, Episode 9 will most likely end up in the podcast trash bin.

It’s a pity, but we learn from our mistakes, improve the product and grow in confidence.
