Foreign tourists to Spain increased in September by just 0.8% over the previous year.
The National Statistics Institute reported on Friday that 9,7 million foreigners arrived in the country.
In 2024, the percentage increase was 9.17% and in 2013, it was 13.2%.

If this trend continues to December 2025, Spain will have 97.3 millions foreign tourists. This would be a new record.
This number would still fall short of the predicted 100 million visitors by 2025 due to the increased cost of air travel and hotel accommodation.
Spain’s appeal to UK tourists increased by 2% in September. This equates to 2.1 millions visitors. However, the German market declined by 2.5% (1.35 million) while France fell by 1.6% (1.1 million).
Italy (down 2.7%) and the Netherlands (down 3.7%) also saw reductions.
The positive side is that the number of visitors from USA has increased by 3.1%, as have those from Ireland (13.4%), and Portugal (7.4%).
The first nine months of this year saw a total of 76.5 million – 3.5% higher than the same period from 2024 (73.6 millions).
In the first 9 months of the year, Spain welcomed 15.3 millions tourists from the United Kingdom, an increase of 4%; 10.2 from France (a decrease by 0.1%); and 9.5 from Germany (an increase by 1.4%).
Catalunya, the region with the most foreign tourists between January and Septembre, was at the top of this list, but it remained flat on an annual basis.
Andalucia, with its 11.5 million residents, overtook Canary Islands by 7.3%.
Expenditure in September rose to €13.36 billion, 6% more, with an average per tourist of €1,380 and a year-on-year increase of 5.1%.
The cumulative expenditure of foreign tourists visiting Spain exceeded, for the first time, the figure of €100 billion(€105.8 billion) between January and September, up 7% year-on-year compared to €98.94 billion in 2024.
