The Leonid Meteor shower peaks this evening

The Leonid Meteor Shower is one the most vibrant meteor showers. There are many spectacular night sky events.  The phenomenon has been visible every night from the Costa Del Sol during November but it reaches its peak this evening at 7pm (17th November).  Unfortunately visibility will be poor as the cloud cover is expected to be around 70%.

There will be up to 20 shooting star per hour when the shower reaches its peak at 7pm. It will not be a distraction as the moon will only be at its “waning phase”, which is around 6% illumination.

You may not be able to see the full intensity of a shower due to poor visibility. You can still watch for shooting stars up until the end November, but the frequency will be reduced to about 10 per hour.

The shooting stars are visible up until the 30th of November.

Leonid Meteor Shower

Since centuries, the Leonid Meteor Shower has been occurring. Earth will pass through a field left by comet Tempel Tuttle.  The debris that burns in our atmosphere leaves behind bright trails of colour and light.

The best places to view the stars It is best to stay away from densely populated areas. There will be less light, and there will be fewer obstacles.  It is safe to view shooting stars without any glasses.
