The property sales in Alicante province were at their highest level ever recorded.
The National Institute of Statistics reported that 4664 purchases had been made in March, which is higher than the previous record of 4,541 set two years earlier.
The number of homes sold in Spain in March 2007 was 4,400 plus, at the heights of the boom in the Spanish property market.

The vast majority (78%) of the transactions were for second-hand houses, while there were only 999 sales of new homes.
Alicante is only a few sales behind Barcelona and Madrid, and surpasses areas such as Malaga and Valencia.
Experts predict that, despite the dominance by second-hand homes, the percentage of new homes sold will rise in the first three months of 2025, with 1,600 units.
Maria Matos, from the property portal Fotocasa, said: “There’s a lot of interest in brand new housing. But that also means there is a problem with rising prices because of strong demand.”
Matos said that the year will be busy, with lower rates of interest leading to reduced mortgage rates and a consequent increase in sales.
As the demand for houses continues to increase, house prices are expected to continue rising along with sales.
