MERCADER is a gastronomic enclave located in one the most distinct enclaves within the city of Valencia. It was created as a space in which gastronomy coexists with architecture and social activity.

Mercader’s origins are closely linked to the building where it is located. The building was originally an old cooperage that produced barrels to be used for packaging and transporting beverages.

Instead of erasing its heritage, the project chose to preserve it and reuse parts of the original machinery. These were then incorporated into the interior as narrative and sculptural elements. 

The result is an authentic space: high ceilings and industrial structures, as well as honest materials which tell the story without explanation.

Every corner reminds you that Mercader used to be a place for work and handicrafts before it became a gastronomic marketplace.

A flexible and open gastronomic marketplace 

Mercader, though it is a gastronomic food market, offers far more than the typical format.

In the kitchen, you will find a variety of cuisines. Each has its own unique identity. However, they are all united by one common philosophy: quality ingredients, careful technique, and respect for raw materials.

The most noteworthy offerings include Lujuria Marina which is a seafood restaurant with a modern interpretation of maritime cuisine, Tonyina Barra where ingredients are prepared with precision and expertise, and with an instantly recognisable aesthetic, and Taller de Carnes which is the market’s very own restaurant. It specializes in meats and grilled dishes and offers a classic and robust approach.

All of these reflect the same gastronomic standard that defines the market in general. 

Mercader, is above all a place to cook. The open kitchens, visible cooking process and constant rhythm give the impression of being in an active space.
