The Dutch have now moved into the top five for property purchases in Spain – here is where they are snapping up homes

The Dutch have risen to the top of the list for foreigners buying property in Spain. 

According to the Spanish property platform Idealista in 2025, foreigners will account for 13.5% of all home sales in Spain, underlining their continuing influence on the market.

Dutch buyers accounted for 6.77% of all foreign property purchases in Spain, making them the fourth most active group after the British, Germans, and French – and just ahead of the Americans.

Dutch renters have been just as active in the rental market as foreign buyers. They account for 7.72% on listings of coastal rentals, ranking the Netherlands fourth.

Idealista highlights the Dutch hotspots on Spain’s famous costas.

Costa Blanca

Idealista users from the Netherlands are most likely to search for homes in Javea, Costa Blanca. 

Javea, Costa Brava is a popular destination for Dutch buyers.

Torrevieja and Moraira are popular with the Dutch.

Catalunya Coast

The Dutch are second most active foreign viewers in Catalunya’s Girona Province, right behind the French. 

Roses on the Costa Brava is the top destination for Dutch buyers. 

The proximity of the French, Dutch and Belgian community to northern Europe attracts buyers. 

Cataluyna Roses is also a favourite among Dutch buyers.

Costa del Sol 

Dutch tourists are looking for properties in Estepona and Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Both towns are popular resorts known for their luxury new-builds and gated community.

Murcia

Dutch interest in Murcia extends to coastal municipalities like Cartagena and Los Alcazares, which offer alternatives to Spain’s more well-known holiday areas. 

Cartagena, on the coast of Murcia, is also a popular destination for buyers from the Netherlands.

Granada

The Netherlands is also a popular destination in Granada, where a milder climate during winter and lower prices are the main attractions. 

Almuñecar’s balmy coasts are also coveted by Dutch buyers.

About half of all Dutch property searches in Granada province focus on Almuñecar and surrounding towns along the Costa Tropical, marking them as highly sought-after destinations.
